Testing for learning disabilities

It is important to note that even on sophisticated testing, these children will appear to have specific learning disabilities or skills deficits. Though these tests are commonly interpreted to parents as a measure inherent ability, inability or deficits, they only measure performance at the time of testing. If this ability to perform at the time of testing is emotionally impaired then it will cause a drop in testing scores. If you doubt this, ask the psychologist to demonstrate the exact testing procedures. It will be immediately apparent that they there is nothing in their procedures that can measure more the child’s immediate performance on the task.
Thus, these tests are usually only measuring the extent to which specific learning tasks are being emotionally inhibited, not any underling natural ability.

inferences about underlying mental structures is psychobabble. I discuss
